Shaleän Sevraseched was the eldest and first illegitimate daughter of the Great Avar of Barizhan, Maru Sevraseched.[1] She is the elder sister of Thever Sevraseched, Ursu Perenched, Holitho Sevraseched, Chenelo Drazharan, and Nadeian Vizhenka.
Life[]
Shaleän was the first of Maru's children, born out of wedlock.[1] Maru did not publicly acknowledge his illegitimate daughters.
She "ran away in her youth, disguised herself as a boy, and became a sailor."[2] She later became a sea captain and took command of the Glorious Dragon. Her home port was Solunee-over-the-Water, where her wife lived.
After Chenelo's death, Maru began publicly acknowledging his illegitimate children, including Shaleän. He did not discuss her, though, as no one in Barizhan really knew what to do with her.

- Katherine Addison gave more information on Shaleän on Goodreads: "She and her wife are very happy together. Temperamentally, she's very like her father; if she and Maia ever meet, he will probably find her alarming. She wears gold rings in her ears and gold beads braided in her hair because it is the custom of her wife's people. Almost half the crew of the Glorious Dragon are women."[3]
- It's not clear if Shaleän does or doesn't share a mother with any of Maru's other illegitimate daughters. Thever and Chenelo were Maru's only legitimate children, and so are Shaleän's only confirmed half-sisters.
